Free Practice Questions

I have registered for an exam, but I have not received a voucher for the Free Practice Questions.
This may be for one of two reasons. First, the offer is only available to those candidates who register for one of the exams referenced in the table here between the dates of May 16, 2011 and October 1, 2011. Second, Pearson VUE processes vouchers for the free practice questions once a week. Please allow five business days to receive the voucher. If you have not received the voucher within five business days of registering for your exam, please contact Pearson VUE.

Can I only access the practice questions once during my 30-day access?
You will be able to access the free practice questions up to 3 times during your 30-day access. If you need further access to the questions, or if you would like to have access to additional practice questions, you can purchase the full ePractice exam from Oracle University.

Do I have to take the exam by October 1, 2011 to get access to the free practice questions?
No. You must register for your exam by October 1, 2011 to get access to the free practice questions. You do not have to take the exam by that date. However, access to the free practice questions will expire on November 8, 2011. We encourage you to schedule your exam as close as possible to the time you have access to the questions to maximize your benefit from the practice questions.

I have purchased my exam voucher from Oracle University, but I have not yet received my voucher for the free practice questions.
You will only receive access to the free practice questions once you have actually registered for one of the relevant exams at pearsonvue.com/oracle. If you have purchased your voucher from Oracle, you will now need to go to pearsonvue.com/oracle, create a web account (if you do not already have one), and register for your exam, choosing a location, date and time. You will enter your voucher as payment for the exam.

I already have a Prometric voucher. How will I receive access to the free practice questions?
You will only receive access to the free practice questions once you have actually registered for one of the relevant exams at pearsonvue.com/oracle. If you have purchased your voucher from Oracle (or have a legacy voucher purchased from Sun), you will now need to go to pearsonvue.com/oracle, create a web account (if you do not already have one), and register for your exam, choosing a location, date and time. You will enter your voucher as payment for the exam. Once you have used your voucher to register for an eligible exam you will be provided access to the Practice question set by Pearson VUE as described above.

Transition

Why is Oracle moving these exams to Pearson VUE?
Moving the Java, Oracle Solaris, MySQL, and NetBeans exams to Pearson VUE test delivery worldwide will advance test accessibility through the deployment of advanced registration and delivery technologies, facilitate the rapid localization of exams around the world, and allow for increased certification scalability and coverage. This move will also improve exam security worldwide.

Additionally, it will provide testing on a single platform and help to streamline our processes which will mean faster service for our customers.

When will this change happen?
Candidates may register for an exam online with Prometric through May 23, 2011. Walk-in registrations will be permitted through May 31, 2011. After this date, candidates may continue to test with Prometric until May 31, 2011. After that time, all exams will be delivered only through (1) Pearson VUE Authorized Test Centers, (2) through Oracle Test Centers, or (3) online at pearsonvue.com/oracle.

Why did Oracle choose Pearson VUE?
Pearson VUE was selected for several reasons, including:

  • global reach
  • unified registration and delivery platforms
  • ability to scale to new countries with new requirements
  • ability to meet forecasted demands
  • ability to deliver on additional investments to secure Oracle test delivery technology

Shifting to Pearson VUE advances our test delivery through the deployment of advanced technologies, facilitates the rapid localization of exams around the world, and allows for increased certification scalability and coverage. It also allows Oracle to offer all certification exams through a single vendor on a single platform, streamlining processes.

In addition, Oracle is making significant investments in safeguarding and marketing its programs to protect the integrity of every Oracle certification and raise employers' awareness of its value.

My Account

Account Set-up

How do I access my CertView account?
You can begin using CertView in two easy steps.

  • The first step is to create an Oracle Single Sign-On (SSO) if you do not already have one. You will have the option to do this from certview.oracle.com.
  • The second step is to authorize your CertView account, using the following information from your Pearson VUE profile
    • Full Name
    • Email Address
    • City
    • Oracle Testing ID

View this video for step-by-step instructions on authorizing your CertView account. If you need assistance, you can contact suncert_ww@oracle.com

I have gained access to my account, but I don't see any exams that I took at Prometric in my exam history.
Oracle has only uploaded certification history (not exam history) from CertManager, except in cases where a candidate took a Part I exam at Prometric and still needs to complete Part II. In those cases, the exam history was uploaded so that the certification rules will be activated once the remaining exam(s) have been completed. Otherwise, you will only see your certification history in CertView. However, any exams that you take with Pearson VUE will show up in your exam history in CertView.

I authorized my account with the information from my Pearson VUE profile, but I still cannot see my Sun Certification history.
When you created your Pearson VUE web account, you may have missed entering your Prometric ID, or Pearson VUE may have been unable to match your new web account with one of the records that came over from CertManager. In either of those cases, you would have been issued a new Oracle Testing ID. If you have an Oracle Testing ID that is different from your Prometric ID, your records are not under the same profile. You will need to request for Pearson VUE to merge these two IDs. Go to pearsonvue.com/oracle/idmerge and submit the merge request. If you have authorized your CertView account using your Oracle Testing ID, you should request for this ID to be the 'Surviving ID.' If you need assistance with this, please contact suncert_ww@oracle.com.

How do I create my Pearson VUE web account?

New Pearson VUE user: have not taken any previous Oracle certification exams – including any previous Sun exams at Prometric – and have not yet created a profile at www.pearsonvue.com/oracle

Existing Pearson VUE user: have already taken exams at Person VUE with another test client (MySQL, Cisco, Microsoft, ect).

If you have taken exams at Pearson VUE under another test client, and you already have Pearson VUE web account set up, you can add Oracle to your account as a new test sponsor by logging into your account at pearsonvue.com/oracle, selecting Update Profile>Additional Information>and selecting Oracle from the dropdown menu.

You will be asked if you’ve tested with Oracle Certification Program before. If you have taken any additional
MySQL exams, or any Sun-branded or Oracle-branded Java, Solaris, NetBeans or OpenOffice.org at Prometric, Choose ’Yes’ and enter your Oracle Testing ID - previously referred to as your Prometric ID.

If you have NOT taken any other MySQL exams or any Sun-branded or Oracle-branded Java, Solaris, NetBeans or OpenOffice.org at Prometric, Choose ’No’ and you will be assigned an Oracle Testing ID by Pearson VUE.

Existing Pearson VUE user, existing Prometric User: have taken Oracle exam at Pearson VUE and Sun exam at Prometric, and need to get your records under a single ID.

  • If your profile information in your account at certmanager.net/sun matches the profile information in your account at pearsonvue.com/oracle, your accounts should be auto-merged under the Oracle Testing ID when the final merge is made in mid-June. In this case, the only action required by you will be to confirm the data is showing in your CertView account.
    • In late June/early July, certification data for exams taken at Prometric will be uploaded to certview.oracle.com. Once the announcement has been made at blogs.oracle.com/certification that this data is available in CertView, check your CertView account to ensure that your Java, Solaris (Cluster), Oracle Solaris, MySQL, NetBeans and OpenOffice.org certifications are showing up under your Oracle Testing ID account in CertView.
  • If the records do not match, and your legacy certifications do not show up in your CertView record, contact Pearson VUE at pearsonvue.com/oracle/idmerge to request to merge your IDs.
  • If you need to take a Part II exam at Pearson VUE before your records are available in CertView, please register for the exam under your Oracle Testing ID. Your certification will be granted in late June/early July, when the records are available in the Oracle Certification Database, CertView.

Existing Prometric user, new Pearson VUE user: have taken a Sun or MySQL exam at Prometric, but are a new Pearson VUE user, meaning you have NOT created a profile on pearsonvue.com/oracle, follow these steps to create your Pearson VUE web account and Oracle Testing ID:

  • Go to www.pearsonvue.com/oracle
  • Select ‘My Account’
  • Click ‘create a new web account’
  • Follow the instructions
    • You should enter your profile information exactly as it is in your profile at certmanager.net/sun, even if the information is outdated or contains typos. You will have the opportunity to update your profile information after you have created your account. For now, it is crucial that the information match so that your account will be set up correctly under your existing ID.
    • You will be asked if you’ve tested with Oracle Certification Program before
    • Choose ’Yes’ and enter your Oracle Testing ID - previously referred to as your Prometric ID

What will happen to my records and with Prometric?
All records are the property of Oracle, and this information will remain with Oracle. Likewise, all new records created through Pearson VUE will be forwarded to Oracle for processing and storage.

What if the information in my profile at certmanager.net/sun is incorrect or outdated?
You should enter your information exactly as it is in your profile at certmanager.net/sun in order to get your Pearson VUE account set up. You will have the option to update the information after your Pearson VUE web account is set up.

  • Go to www.pearsonvue.com/oracle

I have already taken exams with Prometric. Do my exams remain valid? Can I finish my certification with Pearson VUE?
Yes, after you have created your web account at Pearson VUE, you should simply schedule your next exam. Because all previous and future results are the property of Oracle, this will not affect existing certifications or certification paths.

When can I expect to see my exam results reflected in Oracle's system?
Pearson VUE is required to submit exam results to Oracle within 72 hours of the exam, after which the results are processed into Oracle's system. During the transition period please be aware that there may temporarily be slight delays in the processing of exam data. If you have ongoing problems getting exam results or having them reflected in the Oracle database, you should contact Oracle Certification customer service at suncert_ww@oracle.com.

Does Pearson VUE have access to information about non-Oracle exams that I've taken with Prometric?
No. Pearson VUE only has access to data related to the exams it delivers.

I have created my web account at Pearson VUE, but I cannot see the exams that I took at Prometric.
Pearson VUE only has access to data related to the exams it has delivered. In your Pearson VUE profile, you will only see exams that you have taken at Pearson VUE.

What will happen to a candidate's exam records at Prometric?

Because all data pertaining to Oracle exams is the property of Oracle, Prometric will not keep any data about Oracle candidates in its system once it is no longer delivering Oracle exams.

I discovered that I have duplicate Prometric records. How can I get these merged?

Please contact Oracle customer service at suncert_ww@oracle.com before June 1, 2011. After June 1, 2011, please request to have your accounts merged at Pearson VUE.

Will this transition change existing certifications?

Will I be able to use my Prometric Testing ID to register for exams with Pearson VUE?

I forgot my Prometric ID, how do I retrieve it?

You should receive an email from Oracle containing your account information, including your Oracle Testing ID (formerly Prometric ID) within a few weeks. This email will be sent to the email address we have on file for each Java, Oracle Solaris (Cluster), MySQL, NetBeans and OpenOffice.org candidate.

Please note that email volume to the suncert_ww@oracle.com mailbox will be very high during the transition. Please allow 5 business days to receive a response on your Oracle Testing ID (Prometric ID).
