Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria to boost Oracle IT skills pool by training 1000 youths

Through the Oracle University Workforce Development Program, Akwa Ibom State Government in Nigeria, under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel, will train 1000 Akwa Ibom youths on Oracle Database 11g Introduction to SQL and Administration Workshop 1.

The first phase of the training program, which had 200 Akwa Ibom youths as participants, was launched by the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel on August 17, 2015. At the launch Mr. Udom Emmanuel highlighted the significance of the Oracle training in equipping Akwa Ibom youths with the right set of skills for the global market. He said "The objective of this training is to empower these graduates by upskilling them, making them more attractive to potential employers and increasing the IT skills pool for labour in the State's emerging IT sector."


The training, delivered by Oracle WDP partner, Aived International Services Limited, was run in two batches of 100 students each, starting with the first group in August and seeing the graduation of the second group on Friday 24th of October 2015.


The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mrs. Elizabeth Obot thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for his commitment towards ensuring that Akwa Ibom youths are trained with the relevant skills in information and Commmunication.


Participants in the program, Anietie Etook and Imaobong Effiong both expressed their appreciation to the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for the program describing it as a boost to their existing qualifications.
